Catalan elections (2010)

Since 2006, the Biblioteca de Catalunya has been working on the internet monographics about the elections carried out in Catalonia. The last 28th of November were held parliamentary elections, and consequently, were harvested over 22.000 captures in different versions from 967 websites (blogs and websites of 246 candidates from 39 political parties with and without parliamentary representation, institutions and 56 media). The emergence of web 2.0 tools in the election campaign is already a fact, social networks and webmasters have been involved in a campaign in which the 39 political parties have presented their proposals on the Internet.

The harvesting policy contemplates the digital resources from the political parties with parliamentary representation during the previous term (2006-2010); political parties without representation, with nominations officially recognized (DOGC 11/02/2010); blogs, websites, facebook, twitter, flickr and other digital resources of the leaders of each political party list for each constituency, as well as the main candidates of political parties with parliamentary representation; public institutions as the Parlament de Catalunya, the Departament de Governació i Administracions Publiques de la Generalitat, etc.; media nationwide, and a selection of personal blogs with intensive activity in the networks. The harvesting began on 16th of September 2010 and until the date of the investiture of the new President of the Generalitat.

PADICAT offers the monitoring of digital resources used during the campaign by 39 political parties that presented candidates to the Parliament. Altogether, 22.000 different versions harvested from 967 websites to give an overview of the evolution of the Catalan election campaign on the web. The monographic closes the election cycle started with the Catalan Parliamentary elections in 2006, and is complemented by the campaigns of local 2007, general 2008 and europeans 2009.
