2009 European Election at Padicat

22-06-2009

Digital preservation of published issues on the Internet is one of the main goals of the Biblioteca de Catalunya, through the Padicat repository (Digital Heritage of Catalonia). From the previous experiences in the preservation of the electoral campaigns on the Internet to the Parlament de Catalunya (2006), local elections (2007), and the Spain general elections (2008), the Biblioteca de Catalunya, together with the national libraries of Germany, UK, Austria, Denmark, France, Poland and the Czech Republic, as well as with other IIPC members, agreed to carry out a joint project in collaboration to harvest a selection of web pages from the electoral campaign to the European Parliament.

The selection carried out by Padicat consists of 159 digital resources belonging to political parties, candidates, mass media and Spanish and European institutions. All these web sites have been harvested in different versions and already are available to look up through the Padicat web site. The most of these digital resources, due to its ephemeral nature, already are not available on the Internet beyond the service offered by the Biblioteca de Catalunya.

It has been carried out the monitoring of the 35 candidacies published in the State’s Official Bulletin (BOE) running to the European Parliament this last 7th June. Likewise, besides the main Spanish and Catalan media, it has also been carried out the monitoring of some european coverage media, as well as the institutional web sites of the European Union and the European Parliament.
